Cascaad on the iPhone
Cascaad is the social filter that helps you find information you didn’t know you were looking for. What’s most interesting about the service is that it doesn’t take into account how much @replies, retweets or clicks a story has gathered, it has its own unique set of algorithms which takes on the challenge of making it a more personalized service.
Cascaad starts by using your Twitter and Facebook profile to determine your interests. Then it sifts through all the noise within your friends updates to find what’s most likely going to interest you. It reminds me a little of Facebook’s “Most Popular” news feeds feature, only with more metrics (apparently millions).
I believe Cascaad or a similar algorithm would be VERY valuable to Twitter TODAY. I’m very interested to see how popular the browser edition of this service will get.
How to get Cascaad:
Download the free Cascaad app, sign in with your Twitter and Facebook accounts, then you’ll get a pop telling you it’s analyzing millions of algorithms to discover the most relevant stories to you (not sure I believe that one). The progress bar seems to stop at 31%, and I assume as you click on and “thumbs up” more stories the progress bar will rise.. Let me know how far your progress bar gets.
The app is still new and I’m very much looking forward to seeing more features unfold.
If you’ve used Cascaad let me know what you think of it in the comments below.
“There’s a #Hashtag for That”
A journey through twitter #hashtaging, what it means and why we do it. Told by Comedian Baratunde Thurston, from #SwineFlu to #GreatMomentsInTwitterHistory
Are early adapters to Internet Marketing late adapters to Social Marketing?
Gary Vaynerchuk has been speaking about social media for some time now. I’ve been following his blog since 2008 when I somehow stumbled onto him on Twitter. Last month Gary released his second book titled “Crush It”, since then he’s been on tour speaking about how everybody should live their passion. I have read his book (and loved it) and also watched a few of his #crushit speeches over the last few weeks, but this video really blew me away.
Last week I was at an Internet Marketers Mastermind Group which meets every Monday evening. For the first time we got stuck watching a really boring video about being an effective entrepreneur. People actually started leaving early because this screen-cast video was so boring. Finally the host stood up and said “is everyone falling asleep here or what?” everyone really was falling asleep. The group didn’t know what to do next so I got up and asked if they’d be interested in watching a Vaynerchuk speech. Besides about 3 other social media enthusiast in the room, nobody in the group even knew who Gary Vaynerchuk was.
They sure do now.
The video sparked a frenzy of people asking: Isn’t twitter a waste of time? Why would I care if someone is drinking a coffee or taking a poop? I’m on Facebook, why use Twitter too? These were pretty easy questions to counter. A 10 minute discussion had the whole room vowing to set up twitter accounts.
What surprised me was that a lot of these long established internet marketers in the room were still not utilizing social media. Even Frank Kern, long established internet-marketing-master has not been utilizing social media (as far as I know, I’ve searched). Two things come to mind from this experience 1. A lot of early adopters to internet marketing are becoming late adopters to social media marking 2. social media isn’t loved by all marketers (yet) but it should be.

Do I think marketers like Frank Kern will go out of business because they’re not utilizing social media? Absolutely not. The man produces excellent content and it’s going to keep selling. But I do believe that Jason Moffatt who snatched up the user name @FrankKern is definitely taking advantage of not only Twitter, but Frank Kern as well. Do I think that what Jason did was effective? Absolutely not, that’s totally lame but I don’t know whether or not he has actually offered the username to Frank or not.
I am on Gary Vaynerchuks side when he says “the game is always gonna change… there is no going back”. I believe this message also spreads to the long establish internet marketers which have yet to embrace social media and find a way to make it work for their business.
